Bella Thorne and Zendaya rose to stardom co-starring on the Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, and both have seen enormous success since then (hello, Spider-Man and Famous in Love). They played besties on the show, and the two are still friends today — but that hasn’t stopped people from comparing them.
A recent viral tweet shows a photo of Bella and Zendaya in their Disney days alongside a screenshot of Bella's Instagram story and a posed red carpet shot of Zendaya. “Kind of amazing how two people can start somewhere together but end up in two drastically different places,” it reads. The tweet has been retweeted over 33,000 times, but the message it's sending is totally problematic.

Bella herself took notice and liked a tweet that came to her defense, calling out the fact that the viral tweet had used a purposefully unflattering photo of Bella and placed it next to a posed pic of Zendaya in a gown at an event. Plus, the photo of Bella was clearly taken from her Instagram story, where she allows followers a real, unfiltered peek at her life, flattering or not. It's a pretty unfair comparison when there's also plenty of photos of Bella at events and Zendaya posts silly things on her Instagram and Snapchat stories occasionally as well.

It’s really not OK to compare the actresses like this; both Bella and Zendaya have gone on to build successful careers in their own ways, and both actresses are inspiring to their legions of fans. They’ve obviously grown and changed a lot since their Disney days. It’s unfair to both to try and pit them against each other when, by all accounts, it looks like there’s nothing but love between Z and B, two old friends.
