Since his High School Musical days, Zac Efron’s hair has pretty much been established as a work of art. We still think about Troy Bolton’s floppy bangs on a regular basis, and who could forget his panini-inspired ‘do for The Beach Bum? Not us, that’s for sure.
Now, the Extremely Wicked star is back with a new look, fresh from an Australia-based salon — and it’s not exactly what you might expect. As noted by E! News, the hair-cutting experts at Attaboy gave the actor a straight-up mullet. Yep, you read that right — Zac’s dark brown hair now has the perfect extra length in the back, complete with a little curly flip right at the nape of his neck. The look is made complete with the scruffy facial hair that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on the 33-year-old actor.
And that’s not all — after his new ‘do was complete, Zac got a turn to try his hand at the scissors. According to an Instagram post from the salon, the actor gave the shop’s “boss man” a trim after his mullet was perfected, making him “feel 17 again.”

Zac has been keeping it low key in Australia for much of 2020, and has reportedly signed onto another project that will keep him “down under” in the months to come. We’ll have to see if he ever returns to his Disney roots as he’s teased in the past, but if he ever does, we could totally envision grown-up Troy Bolton with a "party in the back" fashion mullet. It's the start of something new indeed!
