After landing three magazine covers this season to promote her new album, Revival, it would only make sense that body image has been on Selena Gomez’s mind. She’s been speaking out on some intimate details of her life (but she’s done talking about Justin, for the record) but rather regarding the body shaming she experienced earlier this year, and how with her nude cover art, she’s taking a stand once and for all.

Selena spoke to Instyle UK about how the online criticism about her body was a hit to her confidence. “It hurt my feelings because I never experienced that before, but I didn’t want [that] to be my story, so I said, ‘I don’t care what you think’ …I’m learning that you can be comfortable and still look beautiful.”

The star also has another important message, which is essentially that body confidence doesn’t necessarily mean loving how you look all the time. Selena says that when she looks in the mirror, “Some days, I like what I see. Other days, I’m like, ‘I’m not even going to bother.’” As though we needed another reason to love her — we can now add “refreshingly honest body-positive icon” to the list.
