Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart Continue to be Couple Goals in Adorable Twitter Exchange

Now that Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have attended the Met Gala arm in arm (and seemingly confirmed their relationship by doing so), it's to be expected that maybe we'll see more PDA from the two. Well, we sort of got our wish this week, when the Riverdale stars engaged in some sly Twitter flirting.

On May 13, Cole tweeted, "I cant wait to be a mommy someday." Eagle-eyed fans of the show took that statement to be a reference to the Riverdale fandom's penchant for referring to Lili, and her character Betty Cooper, as "daddy." Lili herself then responded to the tweet, writing, "You’ve admitted defeat." Cole, of course, didn't take that lying down, and he resorted to a low blow: "Sorry I didn’t reply quicker, your notification got a little lost down the feed," he wrote, including pictures of his sizable Twitter following (8.5 million) compared to Lili's 1.7 million. Hey, we can't all be iconic child stars (and 1.7 million followers is nothing to sneeze at, either).

A Twitter user named Rhiannon was especially helpful in explaining the inside joke to non-rabid fans of Riverdale. She tweeted, "Everyone calls Lili daddy (I believe that started when she mentioned Camila's affinity for the word) and therefore since Lili is daddy Cole can't have that title so he get mommy😂 Lili's saying he's admitted defeat by accepting it." A succinct summary. Back in 2017, Lili actually referred to Cole as a "daddy-wannabe" in a tweet, which also points to her ownership of the title.

Lili ended the exchange with the last word: a Barbie GIF captioned, "Whatever." If Cole is admitting he's growing used to the term mommy, then maybe she knows she's already won. Regardless, it's nice to see these two continuing their legacy of excellent social media banter.
