XOXO, Gossip Girl, here, and have I got some very exciting news for you. No, unfortunately your aging father hasn't yet given up on his dreams of rock stardom, but your favorite television series about the outlandish lives of New York's elite is headed back to television. That's right Upper East Siders, a Gossip Girl reboot has been confirmed.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news, reporting that 10 episodes of the show will air on HBO Max, a streaming service set to debut in the spring 2020. There are as many details on the upcoming series as there are about Georgina Sparks's past, but it was also confirmed that the show's original creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are returning to executive produce.

According to the reboot's executive producer and writer, Joshua Safran, the update will be an "extension" of the original. According to THR, the pitch of the series is: "Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years."

"It's just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly," Safran told THR. "So how has this world changed, how has social media and its effect changed? All of those things allow us to look at the world 12 years on as opposed to just redoing the story. None of us are interested in just redoing a story."

It's unclear whether any of our former cast faves will be returning. In the meantime, Safran told THR why now felt like the right time for the series to return. "It's something we've been talking about — Josh, Stephanie, and I — for a little bit, just in terms of, 'Is this something we want to explore?' We're all so in love with the original and had such an incredible time working on it, and it's such a big part of our lives," he said. "Then the stars aligned and we had availability to jump, and Warners, obviously, it's something they're very passionate about. It seemed like the best time and also the best way to do it."

News of a possible revival started in February, but nothing was confirmed then, and the show was reportedly set to air on The CW. But like so much of our favorite gossip, and our fave couples, things can always change. Now we wait for a premiere date.
